I purchased Congoleum Duraceramic flooring almost four years ago, and have been haggling with the retailer and the manufacturer for the past eighteen months. Within the first six months after installation, we noticed white areas where it appeared that the surface was wearing off.

The company insisted that it was normal wear and tear, and I eventually contacted Congoleum directly, and they sent out an inspector who took photos, and two weeks later we were told that the white areas were caused by sliding our kitchen chairs back and forth on the floor. Of course, they knew it was kitchen flooring when we purchased it, but no one told us we could not put a table and chairs on it because it would not hold up. It is really a shame because we liked the way it looked, but is was fairly expensive and obviously does not meet the wear and tear standards of real ceramic tile, which is their biggest claim. To make matters worst, the company does not back their product and finds all kinds of ways around the warranty.

Our flooring has since been discontinued, and I am sure that is because other people are having the same problem.

We can't even find replacement tiles to fix the problem. Do not buy this product it is worthless!

Annette, you are the first person that I have heard of that got anything back on this terrible product. I have an inspector coming tomorrow and I need to know what to say.

I have installed several Duraceramic floors and all are holding up well. It has been 4yrs since my last install and these remarks are alarming me.

I just swayed a customer away from ceramic because she has low back problems and cooks a lot.

The Duraceramic seemed a better fit for her kitchen, I may have to do some more research. Thank youall for your posts.

Very disappointed. We had Duraceramic installed in our kitchen/eating area.

It has severely faded in the area where there are windows. We have a floor rug down and if you pick it up the fading is really noticeable. My friend also had hers installed just before we put ours in.

She has already had it ripped out and went with ceramic floors. :cry

I also agree that DuroCeramic Tile sucks. Chips, scratches and a pain to keep clean.

Cinsumer Reports rated this high, an 86 on their scale. Which was the best of flooring materials.

I just crossed this off my list.

Thanks for your remarks...

The worst flooring I've ever purchased.

Dents, cuts, chips- the opposite of durable.

About 5 years ago Congo laid off (fired) its quality control department and switched their duties to the production foremen. The production foremen rely on their production numbers to keep their jobs so any quality defect is swept under the rug and the product flies out the door.

QC used to check for visual defects every hour and physical defects every half hour of production. The "QC" inspection now consists of checking 9 cartons of product after a 24 hour production run. Instead of catching defects during a run and correcting the defect in process after losing a few hundred cartons of product, Congo now checks for defects the next day after after thousands of of cartons product has been produced.

Do you honestly believe a manufacturer is going to hold up or scrap thousands of cartons of already manufactured product? Enjoy your Caongoleum floor!!!

We have had problems with ours since instalation. Congoleum offered us $300 rebate on a $2000 floor.

We refused and said we wanted a new floor. Retailer did not want to uninstall an reinstall again so ended up just giving us the flooring and installation for free and quit selling this congoleum product because it was an obvious company defect.

I agree with all the comments made on Duraceramic. I have had mine for about 3 years & right away I noticed chips.

The installer & Congoleum will not stand behind their product.

I have now noticed fading, but it is not covered since the sun has caused it. I love the look of it, but would not recommend the product to anyone.

Ours is a mass of scratches and gouges too. The dealer says I am the only one complaining, but I have a friend 100 miles from here that has the same problems.

Neither of us has pets or children at home.

I feel bad I recommended it to her. I was even told it had been installed in a commercial fast food restaurant and doing fine...guess they just hadn't had it very long.

I have to agree the comment, that Duraceramic is a bad product. We had ours installed 2 years ago and we already have places where the paint is chipped off. Bad investment!
